HOMELESS VETERANS PROGRAM

       LIFE FOR VETS

Veterans assisting Veterans in the outreach component.

Roughly one-third of homeless adults have served
their country in the military.

The "Life for Vets" program in a ten bed VA
supported transitional housing program provided by
The Torrington Chapter of FISH, Inc.
with the intentions of assisting the homeless or at
risk veteran to meet their current and future needs.

Upon arrival, the veteran is presented with case
management to establish a continuum of specialized
VA services including:
evaluation, treatment, psycho-social rehabilitation,
and vocational services to transition into
permanent housing.

We also make use of the community-based
services in response to one's particular needs.

The length of stay varies, however, an extended
period of up to two years is offered.

After discharging, the veteran is
encouraged to continue participation
in the program to assist other veterans
experiencing similar difficulties.

All veterans in Litchfield County
are invited to be part of the
"give and take" process.
